I have a Sony VGN-FZ31S Laptop with a Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS graphics card, I have upgraded to Windows 7 and it does not recognise the graphics card, in the device manager a Standard VGA graphics card is all that is showing. I have downloaded all the Windows upates, downloaded Nvidia drivers but cannot install them as it cannot find the device. Help would be appreciated, thank you.
Hi roswebst0.
Sony has not released Windows 7 drivers for your model so in the first instance I suggest that you try the updated Vista NVIDIA driver from here:
http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/updates/index.aspx?m=VGN-FZ31S&l=en_GB
If that fails to work then you will need a modified .inf file in order to install the drivers supplied by NVIDIA. Have a look here:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/enhancer
Make sure you read the Quick Start guide towards the bottom of the page.
Thank you for your help Rich912,
Sadly neither of these methods have worked for me, I went to look at the graphics drivers for Vista and noticed that they are only availble to 32bit and I have installed the 64bit Windows 7, so I'm pretty sure that these would not work..
On the second method I did as instructed and when I showed the Device Manger driver installer program to the folder where the drivers were (with the modified .inf file) it recoginsed it as the GeForce 6800M GS driver but once I clicked next it just said "File can not be found" "Please contact the manufacturor for help and more information"
Hope that you have some more tricks up yoursleve
Ross
Hi Ross,
I cannot guarantee it will work, but I would be tempted to try to install the Windows 7 64-bit nVidia driver supplied for the VGN-AW21S here: -
http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/updates/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=VGN-AW21S_B&os=10
If it fails to install, you will not have lost anything!
