Problems with Android Pay (in UK with mastercard credit card)

First I know there is an issue with some Visa based cards loaded on an Android Pay when trying to use sone terminals in certain shop chains (as it is on the Android Pay website)

Second...  UK terminals are not the same as American shop ones in that we do not get the options to "select credit" that they get.

When the payment terminal requires a security double check  (the "pin") i cant get shop card terminal which have previously accepted "touch" payment to then accept payment.  (This is more than one terminal in more than one shop, in more than one chain of shops... ie it is many different shops where the till had worked and then wont)

the phone which was just unlocked then says on the screen "Unlock to use Android pay"  and "enter your device pin to continue"

yet...

-touching the z5 finger print scanner

-the phones pin in the phones screen

-the card pin in the phones screen

-putting the cards pin in the terminal

all result in "card type not supported" or words like that on the terminal screen and a failed purchase

has anyone else got android pay to work at the security double check stage or had the same problem (and solved it) ?

Sorry to hear that, you might want to send your feedback to Google directly

https://www.android.com/pay/

Contact your card issuer to determine your card’s eligibility. Some banks may not support all card types.

This repetitious prompting for the PIN (screen unlock code) after each tap on the terminal is exactly what is happening on my US version of the Xperia Z5 in the United States. It makes no difference which card I select, debit or credit. I had no problems on an Xperia Z2.

This started happening to me after the last software update. the app worked flawlessly unitl about 2 weeks ago.

Since the last software update (was it of Android Pay or the phone itself - i cant remember) when i have unlocked the phone and then presnted it to the terminal i receive a screen asking me to re-enter unlock pin.

Since the phone was unlocked already i didnt know what to do. So i locked and unlocked the phone again. No joy. and the transaction would not succeed.

In the end i resorted to using the physical card via contactless. This worked fine.

The transaction was for £2.99 for a small Thomas the Tank engine book. It was the one about Freddie taking a short cut down the dangerous mountain. I dont think this is relevant to the fault though.

i have now moved from being 'keen to use Android Pay' to 'a bit wary as to whether this is going to take longer than writing a cheque'

I suppose it's advantageous that the problem is confirmed to occur outside the UK. Hopefully Sony will expedite a fix, since the Z5 is among their newer models. I wonder if this is occurring on any of the latest X series?

Same problem it sounds like for me. When I try to use it keeps asking me to unlock with my pin. It used to work fine, then it stopped working when I enabled the smart unlock feature. So I turned off smart unlock and it worked fine again. Now it recently stopped working again but smart lock is off. I tried uninstalling android pay and reinstalling, but that didn't fix it. Any ideas? BTW I have a Z5C, running marshmallow. USA using AMEX card. Like I said, used to work fine. Perhaps it coincided with the recent update to the phone?

Hi all,

Just to let you know that the issue is caused by the fingerprint unlock function on the phone - simply put it stopped being compatible with Android Pay. The workaround is not to use the fingerprint functionality and to follow the steps below.

1. Go to Apps > Android pay, clear settings and clear cache

2. Uninstall Android Pay

3. Go to security and turn off the fingerprint unlock function by deleting every fingerprint

4. Turn off all other forms of locking

5. Install Android Pay

6. When the app prompts you to activate a lock type, choose Pin and set that up. DO NOT CHOOSE THE FINGERPRINT LOCK

7. Add any credit cards you want and finish setting up the app

8. Go shopping as normal, unlock the phone using the pin and turn on NFC if it isn't on already

9. Android Pay should now work again.

Your assumption about the fingerprint lock is incorrect.

The E6603 has no fingerprint sensor, and likewise, no fingerprint options to choose, set, or clear.

Nevertheless, I have gone through these steps (minus anything related to fingerprint which does not exist) and the feature remains broken... A feature which used to work.

This may well be a fix for users with a fingerprint sensor. It certainly resolved the issue for me.
