My Facebook kept seizing up and saying to update.   Update failed repeatedly so I uninstalled to start from scratch. tried to install new version and it repeatedly fails.  Unknown error 505.  Am now using basic version via chrome as unable to install. Anyone else having this problem?? Any fixes??   Thanks

Like many others after Adroid update 7.1.1 I was unable to install Facebook or Facebook Messenger.

I have managed to find a Temporary solution.

Go to Google Play Store and install "Facebook Lite". It works well however this does come with some annoying Ads.

You could install " Lite Facebook" from Google Play Store, It combines Facebook and Messenger in the one App.

Hi guys

I found the solution, everything works fine now

First make a factory reset

When it's done do not install or update any thing

Open Google play store (don't apply any update)

Search and install Messenger it will pass

Then update Facebook it will pass too

Then you can install and update whatever you want

Enjoy

Yes, the only current solution is factory reset but even so, you still can't update FB app after that, so what's the use. Back to square one again.

Hello, I have Xperia Z5 Dual and I have the same issue but with Nougat 7.1.1 now. I shall also add that it doesn't just affect Facebook and Messenger, it's also not possible to install Facebook Lite and Messenger Lite, so probably all Facebook apps are affected.

I shall also add that when I got the phone as new a couple of days ago it already had Facebook but a very old version (101.sth), so I tried to update it but got an error. I think I was still on Marshmallow then as I hadn't done the system update. Anyway, I uninstalled FB and thought maybe installing a new version would help but since then I can't get it installed at all as many others have described here... And I have updated system software 2 or 3 times after that, so I have the latest version now.

I assume factory reset is the only solution (?) I would like to avoid it if possible as re-installing stuff could be annoying...

Of course I have tried everything that's been described on Android forums etc. like clearing Play Store's cache and data, restarting the device, removing and adding Google account and so on with no luck.

Hi everyone

Well, I thought it was solved since a long long time.

Personally, when I had this issue, I waited for an update from Sony ,but I was not so patient and I made a factory reset, so everything was solved.

Since the update did not make it working, you have to reset your phone.

For me, I did not had any problems with any application.

Nope, unfortunately it hasn't been sorted, I installed all 3 system updates that were available for my Z5 Dual and I still have the problem, so those Sony updates failed to deal with it.

It seems I have to go for the factory reset too then! Slightly_frowning_Face
