Camera quality

Hi

I got my Z3 a few weeks ago but unfortunately I am very disapointed with the camera quality. Almost every photo I take, both wiht auto and manual mode is very blurry. If I take a photo at the same time with my Nexus 5 that picture has a much higher image quality than the picture taken with the Z3.

I have uploaded an example picture here which I think is way to blurry, I held the phone steady and the lighting was good.

Am I using the camera wrong or is there something wrong with my phone? Is anyone else experiencing the same problems?

The lens is clean when I took the photos.

@Tidy

how are you transferring the pictures to your computer?

upload pictures here so we can see the problem.

@uliwooly I guess it is all about the same... when you look at the pictures on the phone you look at them at 1280x720 (Z3C) or 1920x1080 (Z3/Z3 Dual). When you transfer them to PC and zoom to 100% you see a lot of post-processing grain which is not visible on the phone.

But I still believe that Z3C can do pictures that live up to the expectations. It just need a bit more attention.

Compare those two pictures. Of course one can say that picture from Z3C is far behind the one from DSLR. But DSLR is equipped with 10 times bigger image sensor, lenses and sun cover. Over 1 kg weight. Let's compare:

Z3 Compact, Superior Auto:

Crowd (Z3C)

Sony DSLR-A700 + Sigma 17-70:

If you want to see those crowds live just visit Chech Prage and go to Atomic Clock on full hour 😉

And Z3 Compact in low light conditions. Yellow lane of underground, station Florenc. M mode:

Nice post Sergio

I think the main problem with the z3 camera is that the output is inconsistent/unreliable.

For example, I have to repeatedly take double or triple photos of everything because of potential blur - the shutter lag is poor IMO.

In bright light it seems to perform best. In low light, you have to be awfully careful about movement too. having said that, one has to be realistic about low light levels and how long shutter needs to be open for.

Your first photo IMO is over exposed (maybe a risk of using auto settings but you'd hope in bright light that the camera wouldn't struggle), which reminded me of the problems I had with my z3c when taking photos. Exposure is all over the place. Your metro photo looks better / more balanced. Was that done on auto too or did you select a low light mode?

Glad you made point about blowing them up to 1:1 ratio on a computer. Z3c photos do have an awful lot of artifacts, particularly at 20mp setting. Leaves on trees seem to be particularly prone to pixelation and photos often seem a bit washed out (although high light levels help to negate this problem).

I think the thing about phone cameras is about capturing the moment, even if the photo isn't 'artistic'. Having to take multiple shots, just to be sure of one decent one is a pain in the butt.

Anyone have any opinions about the z5 compact camera performance, just to contrast to the z3c? We know Sony are good at trumpeting about their products but maybe they've fixed the z3c issues in the z5?

Cheers,

Gaz

I find my photos are blurry too. I think there's shutter lag, which means you have to be super careful about holding camera still.

Could you upload any samples?
