Sony Tablet ICS April/May (UK&Europe) My Thoughs & Feelings + more

OK lets start right from the beginning:

Hi all, (long post SORRY!!)

I am a huge Sony fan! (I wont say was as you are just about clinging on to me by a thread)

From the MDRZX700's which I reviewed very favrouable on youtube, to the Vita. From My TV and amp to my Xperia S.. I have collected lots and more along the way, my friends have dubbed me the sony wh*re but im getting just ever so slightly disapointed now...

I dont have a problem with different roll out dates for software nor do I have a problem with my country getting any software updates later than others. (I do live in the UK and according to certain reports Sonys sale are made up greatly from the UK's custom).

What I have a problem with is the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing mentality. When Sony US decided to release ICS in April for USA Tablet S devices it should have spoken with other divisions of sony around the world before making the statement that ICS was been rolled out. And then an official line should have been agreed upon.

This head in the sand attitude adopted by sony is what is really driving fans mad.

I can see Sony is on a bit of a turn around at the moment with some interesting ideas set in place for their phones and I can see they are making a push to reclaim the top spot after maybe a slight wobble. What appear to be tiny things like a software update really matter, dont let lack of communication be what slips up sony.

I dont want to speak on the behalf of others as I dont have the right, however all I would greatfuly ask for is:

Upfront and clear communication, On your select ap page here in the UK you still have posts on it from last year..!! Just looks dated someone needs to work on info/bumf news and post weekly!!! Even if its  just to say check out our new Xperia GX etc..

Make everything gel together better, I can see you are trying to do this with the passport idea but its still messy..

Software with Sony plays a key part (not talking android here) and in the past I mself who studied electonic eng at uni have felt like banging my head against a screen or two.

Learn to commuincate with your customers, be creative and inspirational.. Lead dont follow. You can take Apple etc on you just need the right people and at this moment in time I think this is whats sadly missing. Men in suits, rather than out of the box thinkers who can commuincate with the many rather than the stuffy old few.

OK OK I have waffled enough now...

All im saying is learn to communicate better because if you can almost loose an utter sony nut like me then you can easily lose anybody.

(For anyone who wants to add I can root it, Yip I can but I dont want to.. I am happy to have a warrenty and doing so voids it. Also is it really my responsibility? If we take a look at ICS on the Tablet S it does from early reports fix things that should have been fine with the tablet S in the first place like its ability to forget your Wifi in a second. I should not have to work around problems a bit like the flash viewing/dont get me started on adroids fragmentation with so many other devices).

To the moderator I hear sony dont really view these sites, I do guess that you must commuincate to them from time to time so if you wouldnt mind stressing the feelings of the forum that would be great.

to finish, this is more of a plea really to Sony but i feel we a treading a never ending circle... I dont really want to go else where.. start to listen...

thank you for your time sony and the forum

sorry to rant!!!

fingers crossed one light bulb goes on @ Sony HQ and  an exec think I see it all we needed to say was we are just finalising the Europe update lets keep the fans updated... also never be affraid to say sorry its not a mark of weakness its a sign youve listened

im also interested to hear others thoughts on this subject...

Agree with everything you said OpOpOpla.....

My main issue is with nonexistent or vague info, e.g. the "announcement " last December that ICS was on its way..... timings to be announced..... stay tuned etc etc, just way too vague, and zero follow ups.

Why couldn't they have just given a date and either stuck to it, or if issues arose announce a delay, and give new date. I would be much happier with that approach.

As it is, even if they are working their nuts off to iron out issues and get the updates to us, it just makes it look like Sony dont care.

Yip 100% agreed, Sony could be working 24/7 to offer us an update in the least amout of time possible but without communication like you say it just puts sony in a bad light or has you believe that they are not listening.

Who am I to take charge on anything but it would be great if we could get everyone in the same boat to post here and hope that Sony take note. Voice in numbers and all that

Trying to get hold of anyone proved a fruitless task today.. But had I, I would know doubt have been greeted with call centre op (no offence) and given an official mantra of "Sony dont respond to yada.. yada.. yada..."

Come on Sony its not about ICS its about listening and communicating..

yours still a fan :dizzy: (where is my mind)

Communication is key and it's a real shame there is none forthcoming - I know generally Sony don't take part here - but they could and Omar did at one point.

I don't expect them to but surely they must see on the whole we generally try and help each other and solve problems for each other so some communication on occasion to a supportive site and audience would be proactive and productive.

To add:

Via the jungle drums and youtube Mexico would appear to have the update as would U.A.E now, also word has it that a canadian with canadian pad got the update whilst on vacation here where I am typing from, blighty.

According to reports on the xda forum (make of this what you will, unsure of the sources credibilty), Rollout was expected yesterday for the rest of the world but a bug was spotted with the 3g version so in all areas where both versions are sold ie, wifi version and 3g the update will be put back till the of the month.

We should not really be clutching at straws though and relying on here say.

...if I hear anything cast iron or any further information  I will update here.

ps has anyone tried typing on here using their tablet? its a nighmare

Ha yes agree it is, a flippin pain.

I do wonder at Sony's 'slogan' at the moment 'make.believe'. I reckon they hit the nail on the head with that one

lol totally agreed.. (slogan)

I also noticed on sonys facebook page it said something along the lines of "what thing from sony would you most like to  pull out of a hat?" shame ics was not an option

No word of a lie I dropped wifi twice whilst trying to post this reply and where's  my router..? gen within arms length!

not to mention, because of drop in wifi this page froze and I had to force a close..

wouldnt mind took me an age to get all this typed out,

point been though ics for this user as I imgaine many others is sorely needed.

I have to say since I bought my tablet i haven't had a single wifi dropout either when connected via my router, or using my mobile as a hotspot. Also no typing issues except can be awkward to select exact position when going back into text to edit.

I can also play movies etc direct from my SD card, which Sony says I shouldnt be able to do

I am on the same version of Android as all other UK users (3.2.1 release 2), and haven't rooted but only got my tablet about 3 weeks ago, so maybe some of your issues are hardware related rather than pure Android issues???

The WiFi dropout is a well known issue, it's software related! It's also one of the fixes within ics. If you are using the pad and allow it to go idle reconnection can be slow or have to be carried out manually. Sorry it should have been worded better, its not dropout as such more little niggling reconnections.

With regards to typing we are not having a pop at the tablet s, we are just saying that it's not the smoothest on this particular pane.

Yip there is a myriad of apps out there to add greater functionality, like been able to play vids, music and view pics from sd card, again ics allows us to avoid a work around.

Just wanted to add this thread wasn't a pop at the product nor Sony par se, it was hopefully a way of getting Sony to communicate better.

The tablet works just fine as does Ferraris f1 car but it just needs some tweaks ie ics to unlock a bit more potential (bad analogy, Ferrari need a miracle this year, still they have Alonso).

Build quality of mkII tablet does need to improve, less plastic!

Any way I digress...

Sony communication is all I'm wanting 🙂
