Please help - back ups disks - real newbie

I am really new to computers and am a bit nervous asking all you computer experts for help in case I make a fool of myself.

I've just bought this lovely FW11E and, every day, I got a notice to do a system back up because no disks were provided. So yesterday I went to PC World and bought some DVD + R ready to try to do this complicated back up this morning.

Now for the first time since I had it, the notice no longer appears.

How do I start the system back up in case the sytem fails one day?

I'm a lady in my seventies and I ask that someone kind repliesin very simple language, otherwise I won't understand the instructions.

Also, when I press the button to open the disk drive, it doesn't spring all the way out like a normal computer. Is there something wrong with it, that it only comes out a little way? Am I doing any harm pulling it out manually?

Thank you all in advance.

Hi bizgen,

welcome to Club VAIO..

Firstly please don't feel nervous about posting a question on the forum we will always try to help..

To create a set of recovery disc's do the following:

Insert a blank DVD into the cd/dvd drive tray.

Click Start, All Programs, then Vaio Recovery Center.

If the User Account Control window appears click on Continue.

Select Create Recovery Disc then press Start

Then follow the instructions..

Please note: The recovery disc will allow you restore your Vaio back to it's original as new settings, it will NOT backup any new programs or data, ie photo's, documents, etc that you have added to your VAIO..

Also, when I press the button to open the disk drive, it doesn't spring all the way out like a normal computer. Is there something wrong with it, that it only comes out a little way? Am I doing any harm pulling it out manually?

When you press the button to eject your Vaio's CD/DVD tray it should just pop open slightly, then gently slide the tray out to insert or remove the disc, this is normal behaviour for notebooks..
