I read through this thread from the first page to the last hoping to find an eventual solution, but alas!!!

I don't want to bore people with the repercussions of my missing notes, but they are quite catastrophic. I updated my phone today (2nd February) and had the missing notes problem. My first hanger is that since this challenge started sometime in November 2014, Sony should have been intelligent enough to put up a notice warning users, maybe I would have avoided it, but they didn't

I have personally resolved based on what I've read here, that my data is gone for good, but this has left an indelible mark of scepticism in my heart for a once cherished and admired brand. Will take something extraordinary for me or mine to get a Sony from now.

I'm the same, just read through every one of these hoping for a solution and nothing. That's Sony blocked my psn for having a problem with my name even though it's been my username for about 8 or 9 years and now so many notes (a lot of which were work related) have disappeared - all since August!! Not good enough Sony! I backed my phone up but now can't access any of my notes. It was also a good few months prior to me first noticing in December that I backed everything up so there's plenty which are now unrecoverable completely. I agree with the person above who said that Sony have deleted personal information of their customers without consent and as such are surely in violation of the data protection act and should be held fully accountable. I'm afraid a few free downloads won't be suffice as it was when you screwed up before with everyone's information. I'm certainly not accepting that as compensation for what has been lost here

I bought the Xperia M2 Aqua and updated it to Android Kitkat 4.4.4 and notes app is gone
I didnt have important informations, but i am frustrated. I downloaded "Evernote", its a very good app to replace Notes.

Latest information: an agent called "Laura" on the sony support (http://support.sonymobile.com/gb/xperiam2aqua/contactUs/) has confirmed that the data is DEFINITELY not retrievable and it is gone forever.

The last comment on here from @Rickard was "Our development is of course trying to recover the data" so this represents a change to the latest position from Sony.

A few things need to happen now:

1) This thread needs to be marked as "unsolved" - please can this be done ASAP as I don't think I've got the permissions

2) Using all the evidence obtained up to now, we can start preparing some official complaints. I am happy to coordinate this, please contact me if you would like to contribute

3) I don't know how things have gone with media contacts etc, but might be worth updating them with the latest position

4) Can we get some legal bods involved to see if legal action might be possible? I'm sure if we clubbed together we might be able to cover the fees

I simply can't believe what I'm seeing from Sony. Three monts with a problem created by them, still unsolved and seems they don't matter. The 4.4.4 upgrade still available to increase the number of hurted. That's not the behaviour expected from a company like this. I trusted in Sony but Sony failed and demonstrated our data is not safe within their mobile phones.

Human people learn from mistakes, the lesson I have learned is simple: never, never, never, repeat, never, another Sony in my life, and I will tell this to all my family and friends to do the same.

@Macarronen - agreed, but it will take more than friends and family to make an impact on Sony

OK I've lost my notes like everyone else in this thread.

But before bashing Sony - who neither owns not makes Android as far as I know - I'd like to know if the upgrade to 4.4.4 has killed the Notes app on other vendors as well.

I have no way to tell, but suspect this must be the case. The Notes app cannot be Sony-specific, it's a system widget (any OS in the world as a Notes app).

Does anyone have a non-sony device with Android 4.4.4 to verify ?

cheers

Good point, but if that were true, why don't they just tell us that?
