Hello y'all. I pocess a Nex 55-210mm lens but am thinking of upgrading the body to a Nex 6. However I read that the 6 comes with "Hybrid Autofocus" and a youtube clip suggested that lenses had to be compatible, which my 55-210 probably isnt. My question is really whether the 55-210 I have is redundant or if the Hybrid AF function is relevant to the smaller lenses only. Please help a newbie to the Nex arena!
Hi there, welcome to the Sony Forums
The hybrid ('HDAF') system improves focus performance but shouldn't prevent you using most e-series lenses. If you have the SEL-55210 it should be fine. It's being sold as a bundled lens with some NEX-6 kits, so you shouldn't have a problem.
If you check this page and click the 'lenses' tab you can get a list of compatible glassware
Cheers
Mick
There's a firmware update for that lens here
http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/NEX-6/updates
So you can use your current lens with both normal contrast focus and hybrid focus. It's only a little bit better, but it is better.
also the nex6 has a new firmware update that updates more lenses http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/NEX-6/downloads/FW_NEX6_V101_WIN
Hello here are the direct links for the necessary updates which are now available. Please note that you have to update both camera AND lens firmware:
