Z3 HDCP error with Microsoft Display Adaptor (Miracast)

I have a brand new Z3 with the factory image and it is not working with the Microsoft Wireless Display Adaptor (miracast). The Z3 finds the device and it tries to connect for a few seconds. After that it gives the following error, "Could not turn on screen mirroring. The output device is not ready or does not support HDCP".

I know the adapter is working correctly because I tried it on laptops, HTC One (M7), Samsung S5 and OnePlus One.

The adapter does support HDCP.

Does anyone have the same issue and any workarounds?

As a sony employee you should know the answer. Sony hdcp protect everything apart from certain apps. So you can't cast the screen unless through apps they allow. A complete con, so annoyed! I will not buy another Sony phone after this one now I know now.

The comment about the employee was to the support person posting comments not the original poster.

I have the same issue with the Z3 and MS WIreless display adaptor. Sony, please raise this with R & D for a fix.

The MS Wireless display is probably the best unit on the market right now for wireless display. After testing a number of different units the MS one seems to offer the better frame rate, audio sync, setup and stability etc. It is not without its faults but having the Sony just not work with it at all is not good. This rules out any Sony phone / Tablet for wireless presentations in our environment.

Our developers have done further investigation of this and found that the issue is that Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter is not fully compliant with the specification for HDCP 2.2.

However, our engineers have made a workaround for this issue so that it will work anyway. This workaround will be rolled out with the update to Android 5 for Z2 and Z3.

Thats some of the best news I've heard from Sony in a long time.

Seems like the Xperia Z3 the pioneer flag ship of Sony experia is still running off of steam, their main selling feature is that you can put it under water  and thats it. which is sad to see knowing all the money they have sunk into this phone when you could of cought a 1p clear bag and do the same thing.

IR forget it why use IR when you can use an actual remote instead of their awesome phone....

bought a z3 because it was suppose to be the best of the best turns out could of bought a samsing s4 and got loads more for my money. i mean the z3 doesnt even support monitor mirroring. chromecast miracast meh lets hope xperia catches up with the latest technolgy in my lifetime. i turned down the iphone 6 for this junk and so far its only use to watch it sink to the bottom of the bath tub.

s4 - s5 - IOS 4-5-6- seems to of taken the lead if the xperia z3 is their pioneer flagship then god help us all...on a side note anyone want to buy my phone will accept a packet of crisps and a pepsi

So I updated to android 5.0 on my Z3 a few weeks ago. My xbox just got an update to support miracast and I am getting the same HDCP error.

What was the fix and was it delivered in 5.0 as planned? I would expect HDCP to be turned off unless playing content that requires it

Same problem here aswell. HDCP error when trying to connect to my Philips tv using miracast. However, when running Cyanogenmod 12 on the same phone, the feature works perfect. Sad we have to root our phones to use It's features..

@KlawUk and @jammyz

Sorry to hear that you can't connect with your Xbox One.

The workaround we made in 5.0.2 is specific for Microsoft Display Adapter. I have seen confirmations from other users that it works now.

I searched a bit for Xbox One and Miracast but i'm afraid all information i find says that it will not work with devices that uses HDCP which Z3 and Z3 Compact does.

@Pølsetrynet

I've heard of this before and i'm afraid i found a response from Philips in their support forum saying that they don't support HDCP for Miracast.
