See if anything from the above topic helps. Also try to disable microphone noise suppression and speaker voice enhancement.

Turning off the microphone noise suppression helped me.
Thanks.

(I would've thought this feature to be useful, but finally it seems better without it..I had to test it several times with another phone to see if the sound improved or not)

Hello. I recently bought my Xperia Z3 compact. Its a great phone..except the awful microphone problem. I bought it a week ago and 3 days ago I made the mistake to update to Android 5.1.1. Before that, I didnt have the problem.

Anyway, the problem - when I hold my phone to my ear the other person doesn`t hear me, when I turn it to speaker they hear me perfectly. Sometimes it`s the other way around - speaker doesn`t work, the other person can hear me when I hold it close to my ear (this happens rarely).I tried the Internet fixes, none work. Maybe you can give me some solutions as I asked Sony to give me another Xperia and they told me that it has to go to them 3 times with the same issue.

Cheers

@gishena

I'm sorry to hear that, you could repair the phone with PCC, if that doesn't work then you will have to contact your local Xperia Care

I talked with a Sony employee, she advised me to reinstall the 5.1.1 with a computer ( I updated it with WiFi) and if it doesn`t help, to bring it to the place I bought it from. Did you mean that or something else?

Hello everybody: I had the same problem with my Z3 copper and after searching allover the internet I found the solution to my mute calls: go to Google settings > Now > Voice > Ok Google detection > turn off 'from any screen'. Now you can't speak from any screen 'ok Google' but the microphone will work in the right way during calls. I think the problem won't be solved until a new update will be released. Hope I've bene helpful... Greetings from Italy!
