Xperia Z5 Compact (and others) BMW bluetooth compatability issues

Hello,

I have just upgraded from an iPhone 5s to the Z5 Compact, whilst the iPhone paired seamlessly with the OEM bluetooth system in my 2005 E46 BMW the Xperia is unable to do so.

Research suggests this is an in-built issue with the Sony/Android bluetooth on v4.4 and higher, and cannot be resolved.

Before I return the phone for an exchange can anyone confirm that this is indeed the case, and that it is not going to be resolved in the next version of Android?

Thanks

Oliver

Similar problem with LG G Watch R and with Cardio BT strip. 10/15 secs then disconnect for 2/3 min, then reconnect.

Well done Sony...

With My Xperia Z5 Dual this same problem with BMW F30 and Garmin Fenix 3. Randomly disconnected and connected again. Very annoying. With previous Z3 was no problem with BT.

Please fix this ASAP !

There is a new update available for the phones - I had to check rather than it popping up. No release information but one of the comments on the Xperia blog indicates that Bluetooth may have received some fixes.

I have downloaded this today (UK, Vodafone, Z5) but have not tested yet and due to the intermittent nature of the fault i want to test this over a few days before saying if it has changed anything!

Can confirm that this is still a problem. Phone taking up to 5 minutes to connect, disconnecting even during calls. Bluetooth appears off on the Z5 itself on occasions. Come on Sony!

This thread has been running for some time and sony's involvement seems to be lacking. I have problem with my 61 Jaguar XF which despite re-pairing several times it only randomly auto connects when I start the vehicle. Never had this problem with several HTC phones previously with same vehicle. Looks like it's a Sony BT problem that they don't want to acknowledge.

Hi, I've had similar problems with my Z5C and managed solve the problem for me.

I have a VW Golf with the Composition Media stereo unit which I've tried to connect with my phone. The phone and stereo paired up but lost connection every 10 second or so. I upgraded to latest firmware and factory reseted both phone and stereo without any success. From a long time of troubleshooting I manage to come to the conclusion that the problem occurred when trying to sync my contacts.

I used to have a pretty messy phonebook from years of merging accounts and phones, so I had several duplicates and some contacts with many duplicate phone numbers. So I moved all contacts to Google Contacts and from there I merged all duplicates and cleaned out all duplicate contact info's, not just linked duplicates. I also removed some facebook links in contact description which I think my old HTC Desire added way many years back.

I also had a "Blocked Caller" contact from TrueCaller which had about 600 or so numbers, which i removed.

After this the phone doesn't lose connection and all my contacts are synced into my car.

I hope this might help someone else.

That's interesting - I will maybe try that but am going to see if the marshmallow update has solved it first...
