Solved! Go to Solution.
I've read all the solutions (which don't work!), tried a couple of things which I found in other corners of the internet, which also didn't work, so I eventually bit the bullet and completely reset the phone. What a pain, I shouldn't have had to do this after an authorised upgrade. I've told my wife not to upgrade her Z3 compact for the time being - I really don't want to have to reset that one too!
Sony, I shouldn't have to go through all this hassle after an upgrade. Please do something about it!
Resetting my phone solved the issue, and at least I can now rely on my phone to not overheat and retain it's charge all day, not the 3 hours it was immediately after the upgrade
So, the full re-set fixed all of the issues w/ your Z3?
Yes, it certainly worked for me. It took me most of yesterday to get the phone to find the songs and photographs on the SD card, but its now working OK. Took a lot of work to get my phone back to normal, and I'm still missing some apps, but I'll re-install as I need.
Good luck if you try it. It worked for me.
I'd like to make the point to anyone from Sony who may read this
I SHOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO DO THIS!
I'm getting these problems too.
First after the update the battery would drain, by the early afternoon I was on about 34% which shocked me so I didn't continue to use it in case I needed it for anything urgent.
When I got home I plugged it into the charger and now the screen shows "Charging Slowly", estimating about 10 hours to fully charge - or more. I charged it overnight and I ended up on roughly 50% today.
So I've had it plugged in all morning and it's moved from 50% to 56% in 3 hours. Seriously this needs to be fixed.
I tried the Sony Xperia (PC) companion software and it would not run the full course of the back up process. 2nd I tried just backing up my Phone settings & Conversations (only) on my 2nd attempt and it would still not complete. I've spent about 10 hours now; let it run connected to my PC over night (didn't finish), let it run from 9:00A.M. (backing up only my phone settings & converstations), it only got to 50% and never finished (now 12 hrs later > I left it running connected to my pc while I was at work today).
I'm now going to attempt to do a "full" back up to the installed SD card and just "wipe" the phone and reinstall the v6.0.1 Operating system. I'll post up if (or if it doesn't) works. -Davis
Okay; I've (seemed) to have backed my entier phone to my SD card and navigated to the "restore" function in the settings menu. With great fear and anxiety; I'm now going to use the reset function (holding my breath for as long as that takes), I might be in and out of consciousness > don't call 911, not right away at least ?
Restore I did: my phone now looks as it did when it first came out of the box: I'm now stuck at the start screen which wants you to agree to some Android/Google stuff which I did.
Next it want's me to connect to a WiFi network (which it won't). It gives me the choice to "connect to a WiFi", "skip" (which is grey'd out) or go back to the initial screen asking me to agree to Google/Android crap: it will not let me move forward what so ever. !
I'm getting very agitated & confused: Should I break the phone and see if I can find a piece of Gorilla glass large enough to sever a major artery or just place the device in the microwave oven and video it for youTube ?!?
I did a "full" back up to my SD card (since the Sony PC software wouldn't work) > factory reset of the phone itself: and then did a "restore" from my back up: a lot of my app's still don't work. The basic phone ie; text and call functions work. My: Contacts, keyboard (crashes as soon as I open it), connection to WiFi, MMS, will not work.
I suggest that you do some "screen shots" of all of your "network" settings (and save or email them to yourself) before you "restore" your phone, you will need these to get it working again. High speed connection (4g) will not work (as of 6-16-16 > yesterday)!
I was able to find the "correct" settings to get my MMS & 4g working again but, all of my previous contacts were lost. I took my phone to work w/ me yesterday (since it still won't connect to my home WiFi) and was able to connect to the WiFi there and "restored" my Gmail settings & contacts.
I also looked up the settings for the: high speed (4g > your provider will be different!) and was able to re-work the settings to get to work. It now works w/4g again!
Today: My phone was still draining much faster than it used to & it still felt like it could start a fire (very hot). I looked at the battery usage and two programs (Google play & Steps mania) were on the top of the list. I removed "steps mania" and restricted Google play (as much as I could), Google play is still is at the top of the list for battery useage (40%)!?!
I now have a functional "Smart phone", Maps, MMS, YouTube; however, after spending two days testing (a week reading) my battery still runs out before the end of the day. It runs hot > as thought something is still "running in the background"?
By this time of the night before the 6.0 "upgrade" my phone would still be around 40-50% and now I'm at about 20% (maybe less).
My phone appears to be "fully" functional as it did before the 6.0 upgrade but, battery life is about 1/2 as it was before: I thought "upgrades" where supposed to inhance your phone and not "handicap" it !
That was a lot of work to go through to get my phone back to functional but, w/ really poor battery life & a lot of of my apps that still "crash" as soon as I try to use them!?!
Anyone that doesn't want to wait for Sony to fix this > or doesn't have the techinical knowlege to get their phone back to a "functional" state: Please don't hesitate to contact me, I'll do my best to help you (something Sony is yet to offer) -Davis
Each person has their individual usage patterns - those who use the phone more, will drain the battery faster.
But, when you upgrade, you should not see a difference in battery performance.
I am with everyone who says battery life is worse under 6.0.1 compared to 5.x.
I used to recharge my phone every second night (I use it mostly as a phone, with some email checking, a few apps to get updates).
After update to 6.0.1, I think I managed to last to the second evening once in 2 months. So, battery life is worse. I have optimized all I can (which means everything except Google Play services is optimized)...
I'm at the point where I'm afraid to use my phone unless totally nessary because I know that the battery will not likely last through the day. And, for that reason: that has totally ruined my Z3 experienc! I used to love this phone for not only the battery life but, the fantastic photos I was able to capture w/ it. But, now I use it "scarcely" as just a phone and "prey" that it gets me through the day as "Just a phone". -Sad- ! Davis
