WiFi is extremely slow

I have an Xperia Z5 Premium and I am having a terrible experience with the wifi connection. Able to connect with no problems and it stays connected but the speed is ridiculously slow. I have a 10mb connection and if I run a speed test I get .01mb of speed, have tried different tools to measure and all show similar results while I can test with a PC, iPad and a Samsung S7 and I get a normal speed result on those of 10-11 mbps. This is really annoying because it obviously doesn't let me use Remote Play because of the speed and when it connects it is impossible to play.

I have already rest the device to factory settings and it didn't help, also tried the Software Repair from PC Companion and it didn't help either.

Something to note, I once got an error saying that the wifi couldn't start while it was already started andnI had to restart to get it on again.

What can I do about this?

Hey guys,

Just adding some more information. While still experiencing slow internet on apps(YouTube, remote play, Spotify) that stream online or even the browser(chrome) I notice that the Play Store is downloading considerably fast, I started to download Need For Speed and noticed the progress was moving pretty quick, I was able to count 10 seconds to get 10Megabytes downloaded so I calculate that speed is actually 10 megabits per second.
Everything else is still working extremely slow Slightly_frowning_Face just play store is downloading fast... any ideas?

Try connecting to a 5GHz WiFi network and see if you get the same issue.

Also, if you can't do that, try connecting to a bluetooth device (such as a fitness device, smartwatch, or bluetooth speaker or headset) and see if your network speed comes back up.

I've got three Android 6.0.x phones here from three different manufacturers (one of them is the Z5) that has these kinds of slow WiFi issues that you mention and using either a 5GHz network or connecting to a bluetooth device (I connect to a Microsoft Band 2) tends to "fix" the problem. Very strange.

OMG man, that is a ver good observation and you are totally right. I just connected to a speaker and tested again and the speed went up to 10mbps. Like you said, this is very strange , I wonder if we just need to learn to live with this!

Hey Guys, just adding a new finding.

Looks like the problem is being caused by interference of my home phones which are also in 2.4Ghz. Whenever I am having problems I just disconnect the phone and just like that, the speed is back up instantaneously.

The doubt that I still have is why only on 6.0 Android Thinking_Face

I FOUND THE ANSWER!!!

I was having the same problem. Very slow loading videos on Facebook App, and Youtube App. Chrome navigation was slow but not that bad as Youtube and Facebook.

What I found is that my router was transmitting in CHANEL 11 which apparently doesn´t go well with the phone because other devices and PC´s were completely fine, just this little expensive and not so good phone had problems with that. Even a Samsung cheap smartphone loaded videos with no problem.

So back to the solution, I tried looking for the option of GHz to switch between 2.4 to  5 GHz on the options of my modem but couldn´t find it so reading an article I decided to try the channel. I switch from eleven to 6 and nothing really change, but at the beginning, it seemed to improve just a bit. Still looking for some real change I went and try channel 1. Omg, as soon as that modem restarted, all the apps and videos were flying as they should, no stop, just loading way way faster, you didn´t even wait for anything in none of the apps mentioned before.

So apparently this phone can´t handle interference very well, and it works better on some channels.

you'd find because of channel overlapping...channel 1 would most likely be the best channel to obtain the fastest speeds because there is less overlapping channels, especially from your neighbours etc etc.

its always a good idea to use apps/programs such as inssider to figure out what wifi channels are being used in your area.

youll find that most routers which are set to auto (for wifi channel)tend not to pick the best one.
