Notification on Message Icon Wont Go Away

On the stock messaging app, I have a notification on the badge/icon/widget that won't go away. I've received messages over the last few months that were undeliverable, I cleared the notification on the bar at the top of my phone but the icon still shows the messages as unread. I've tried deleting the conversations from the senders of the undeliverable messages, I've tried clearing my cache & restarting the phone (which worked at first, but then as soon as I received a new text message the notifications came back), tried disabling the messaging app & re-enabling it, tried a hard reset (holding down the screen lock button & up volume for a few seconds), turned off notifications & turned back on. Nothing is working! Any help would be much appreciated!!

Hi @bswahili,

Try changing your default SMS app to Hangouts and see if you can find an unread or corrupt message (should be marked with a red "!") in that app. Delete any that you find and then change the default SMS app back to Messaging.

You can change the default SMS app by going to Settings > More > Default SMS app.

Good way is:

1. Change app for message to messenger

2. Open messenger and go through messages. You will find unread conversation(s). Remaind them

3. Switch back to official message app.

4. Find and open remainded conversations

5. Number of messages disapear
