A-GPS

Hi there,

Thinking of finally upgrading my dated X10 to the new Z2, but have one important (for me anyways) concern regarding the GPS on this device. I will be using this phone as a backup (i.e. emergency) naviation device while im out walking but from the reserach i have done so far, it would appear that the A-GPS would be no good if i am in the middle of nowhere up a mountain with no phone signal/internet. While i know the A-GPS is much beter at giving me quick acurate location information while in the city, whats really important to me is the ability to locate myself in bad weather up mountains? Can the Z2 do this? I have tried searching the net for this information (it is quite specific i know) but cannot find anything. Any help would be much appreciated as i really do want this phone, it ticks all the boxes for me, but just need some help on the GPS question.

Thank you in advance.

😄

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

An A-GPS is a standard GPS that can use the mobile network to find your location faster. It doesn't depend on the mobile network. With no network coverage it works like a standard GPS (positioning may take a bit longer).

But you also need to consider the GPS app you're going to use. If you want maps you need to use a GPS software that can save maps on the phone. It's possible to save maps on the phone in Google Maps but some features like directions needs internet access.
