Screen resolution????

Screen resolution????

So this phone is NOT in 4k.

I checked and it appears to be outputting in 1080.

When I put it next to my Razer phone (2k screen) I can fit over 2 more emails on the built in gmail app.

If I record a 4k video and play it back I can't see the entire video (as it zooms in the middle).

I contacted Sony live chat support and they were not able to provide any assistance just say "the spec says 4k"

Anyone else know anything about this?

Good news!

I found out the screen is infact displaying at 4k.

Sony appears to have the "Smallest Width" set to 485 which results in everything being big.

I changed it to 564 and now everything looks "normal" for a high res phone.

So the phone was working as intended but the scaling or "Smallest Width" needed to be adjused so the phone looked proper.

To change Smallest Width.

Enable dev options

system->about phone->build number (until it turns on)

Then go system->about phone->developer options->drawing->smallest width

The higher the number the smaller everthing is.

Stock is 485

I used 564

RTFM

Search for HDR

Stated in another way: You can enjoy the features of your new device even more if you take time to read the manual.

It will open a world of possibilities this beautiful device can offer you.

As Johan Cruijff mentioned: When you know it you will see it.

Take a look here. Sony doesn't advertise things that don't exist.

One thing you can change as well is display size. You will find it in settings.

Once you have slided it to the minimum you will have more lines of text on your screen.

Maybe that is what you are searching for.

The resolution of the screen is not at 4k it is at 1080.

Download an app to check the resolution and it will confirm this.

If you record a 4k video and watch it at 100% zoom (regular) its way zoomed in as the resolution of the phone is way less then 4k.

I have all the scaling settings set at smallist and its still big compaired to my 2k phone.

If I put gmail side by side I can see how mcuh more information my 2k screen shows vs the Sony's "4k" screen.

Only thing I can think if is Sony claims they put a 4k panel in the phone but only outputs a source of 1080 (which seems like false advertising)

Your reply doesn't really make sense in the top half not sure if its a formatting problem or not..

For a $1000 phone having a 1080 screen is kind of a dealbreaker since that and the camera\(shi**y) speakers were the only selling points.

1440p oled to the left.

2160p XZ2 premium to the right.

1080p indeed?.. ha! Nowhere near.

I think it's important to note that it seems most apps don't know how to use 4k yet. Most appear to be outputting in 1080 but the screen/Android itself is 4k.

I have further increased the smallest width and now my phone thinks it's a Tablet for every single app which has some good side effects such as having the desktop version of Chrome, email giving me extra buttons that were hidden in the 3 dot menus.

This is like TV. 4K screen and no content in 4K reasolution. If there is 4K content it can show it. XZ2 Premium 4K screen is same. For now only Android, Album, Videos and videos from some services (Amazon Videos, Netflix, Youtube...) are in 4K.
