I've had problems with the Flashlight and the Camera on and off. Sometimes I can't turn it on (and the icon just disappears), once it had turned on by itself and I had to reboot the phone. Whenever the flashlight isn't working, the camera cannot start either. It's not a hardware issue, since it often starts working after I clean some memory, reboot in safe mode, and/or turn on and off the flashlight before attempting to start the camera. PLEASE DON'T SUGGEST IT'S HARDWARE BECAUSE IT ISN'T. A hardware glitch would not be fixed by restarting the phone in Safe mode while it is lying on my desk.
Now, there is some nasty camera/flash software bug which plagues most of Sony's recent Xperia lineup. Just Google and you'll see for yourselves. It usually manifests through an error message "Camera not available".
This requires a software fix which Sony should provide. And,no, I am not erasing my phone before I get at least one single confirmation that it permanently fixes problems with the camera.
