deleting e mail

Can you delete a load of e mails at once or have you got to select them all individually and delete them to the recycle bin ,only to have to reselect them again to delete them?

the latter,

or you can wait for longer than a month and it will purge the oldest deleted emails

I have had my Sony Tablet for a year now and all my deleted (in the recycle bin) emails are still there, so there is no automatic purge, and there seems to be no way of holding shift and deleting multiple emails - surely there must be am i just missing something?
