Hi there, just had the same problem and was getting very frustrated, so went onto a similar forum as this and found an answer that worked for me and fingers and toes crossed! - it seems to be working fine - here's a copy of the info:
Open Windows Media Player
Click on Rip (on the tiny drop down arrow) to give you the options list
Click on Format and this will give you a list of file formats
Change the file format to MP3.
This means that the files you're downloading from a CD will automatically be changed to the MP3 format compatible with your MP3 player. You should then have no problem adding tracks/albums to your sync list and then transferring to your player.
You may however need to remove the CD you're using and rip it again into MP3 format.
