Hi,
so I have gotten an old VGN-SZ4XWN from work and I decided to update it from Vista to 7, having done this I am now stuck with maximum screen resolution of 1024x768 when the screen on the notebook is 1280x800. I tried to download the drivers from the NVIDEA site to then find that VAIO's are on their exception list so it didn't work.
I emailed Sony and this is the reponse I got "... Upgrading the operating system results in this issue with the VAIO, that is why we do not recommend upgrading or downgrading the operating system..."
So that was really helpful, and if that is the level of support I can expect from Sony then I don't think I'll ever buy anything from Sony! But for now I am stuck with a load of wasted space on my screen unless someone here can help me, either that or I have to revert back to Vista and I'm sure you all know that I REALLY don't want to do that (who would?)
Please please help me!
Thanks

Hi CARBr6
In addition to Fender67's suggestion of a modified .inf file you could try installing the Vista driver provided on the support site as often Vista drivers will work with Windows 7:
http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/content/cnt-dwnl/prd-comp/NVDVID-01360403-UN_2635/VGN-SZ4XWN
You may need to use Vista compatibility mode to install.

Tell us a bit more about OS architecture, it's W7 x86 or x64??
Also what is your Nvidia model GPU??
If my info is correct the latest Nvidia driver for your model is:
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/8971/en-us
You will need to modify one file inside the driver and add your HW Id's for your model in order to be able to install it, if you know what you are doing it's quite easy...
That is exactly the driver I downloaded previously. What do I need to edit and how do I edit it?
Thanks
