Volume buttons don't change audio level

Hi All,
Excuse me if this has been asked before but I can't seem to find a search facility on this forum and I've browsed lots of threads without any joy, so....

I've got a Sony Vaio (model PCGGRT996ZP), the volume buttons next to the mouse pad appear to work (they change the volume in the on-screen popup) but the audio level is not changed.

Is this a known fault, as two of my friends have the same problem ?

Is there a fix for this ?

Cheers,
Sam.

P.S the FN F4 button does the same :slight_frown:

Unfortunately, the Search facility is as good as dead (if you find it), but hopefully it will be added soon.

To cure your problem, open My Computer, then C: (VAIO) and finally UTILS. In there, open the UTILS.EXE package - this reinstalls the Sony Hotkey Utility (amongst others). Restart your computer and try to use the Fn functions again - hopefully this will clear it up for you.

Thanx James,
Tried it but it's just the same, screen pops up and you can see the volume changing in the onscreen display, but it doesn't change the master volume control or the wave volume.

It is meant to change one of these isn't it ???

Stange that they were both delivered like this...

Oh, I forgot the mention that they are both running

Windows XP pro SP2

didn't work when it was SP1 either
Sam.

You're right - it is meant to change the master volume.

Is there an update on VAIO-Link? Download it anyway and try again.

Hopefully Sony have released an SP2 version, if you still get no joy then either ring them, or contact them by eSupport (available from VAIO-Link).

Did you install the Sony Shared DLLs?

Did you install the Sony Shared DLLs?

Hi,
I'm not sure - how can I tell ?
I did the Utils.exe thing and restarted, on bootup it continued to install somethings, but it is the same as before.

I've asked around and two of us have this problem (both got our machines a few months ago), and one (got his PC yesterday) works fine ???

Can you talk me though checking the dll 's ?

Cheers,
Sam.

You have got them they're in the utils.exe package.

I ran the Utils file and it did lots off updates - doesn't tell you what it's doing and it doestn't make any difference...

Only thing that looked different was the ALPs pointing device so I have just updated the driver for the ALPs pointing device, on my mates PC (the one that was working) and now it won't bootup

Not a happy bunny !

It fails with ntfs.sys and suggests repairing it with the windows setup CD - which I haven't been given... The Vaio recovery disk looks like it will delete all data and format the drive !!!

- HELP - all this for some damn volume buttons

Also see bootdisk.com to see if they have a Windows XP Satrtup disk.

Had to fix my mates PC, but that still hasn't made my volume buttons work.

Any ideas ?
