I need a new battery pack for laptop purchased in states. does anyone know the equivalent model number or how to get this particular model in UK.

As far as I am aware the model number is the same in the UK..

Sony style have the VGP-BPS2, which is compatible with VAIO VGN-S, VGN-SZ1 - VGN-SZ5, VGN-FE, VGN-FS, VGN-FJ, VGN-C and VGN-AR - VGN-AR3 series notebooks, but do not seem to have the longer life BPL2 listed..

You could try contacting Vaio-support Phone - Non-European VAIO 0905 0310006 (0.35£/min) to see if they could supply the battery or alternatively search for a Sony VGP-BPL2 via google, just check the specs to ensure there correct before purchasing..
