i started to get this error after i put in a 5.1 sound card so i went to the power dvd web site and found out that the version of power dvd was version 4. this only supports the onboard sound with the two speakers(stereo) that came with the pc. some dvds come with a player that you can load to your pc. the one i got was with a harry potter dvd ( interactual player) so i use that now.if you want to use power dvd with multi channel sound you will have to upgrade to power dvd 5.hope this helps.
