Power Jack on VGN-FW11M

Hello

My VGN-FW11M was knocked off my desk a while ago by my dad and the plastic part of the power jack snapped and became loose. But I managed to plug it in and it kept the power going to it.

But it isn't powering the computer any more.

Any idea where I can purchase the correct power jack for this laptop? I have searched the net and found ones for other models but not one for this model.

And also a guide to opening this laptop to replace the power jack if possible.

Thanks,

Chris

Edit:

I have just opened up the laptop, Fairly easy to my surprise as well.

I have managed to take out the power jack cable and it has a little white tag on it with the following:

M760 DC In Cable

073-0001-4504_A

FOXCONN 080508

Every site I found with the M760 DC In Cable was an american one but I need a UK supplier if possible

Thank you very much, Wish I could have found that shopadilly site myself. lol

I have contacted one of them ebay sellers to see if it's the same part number that I have on the lead that I have here. Hopefully it will be.

If not i'll try contacting one of the service partners

Thanks for the help

Me again

Well I contacted one of the EBay sellers and they said they had the 073-0001-4504_A but when they have come to send it me the cable is damaged. Unfortunatley this was the only _A version they had.

Now they have 073-0001-4504_B which is the same number besides the A and the B, Will this make any difference do you think?

The EBay seller seems to think it won't make any difference. Any advice would be great.

Chris , same thing happened to me yesterday, your post saved me a lot of time. Can you post how you actually removed the DC in please?, I cannot get into the case.

Cheers

Steve

Hey mate, I removed the DC IN by opening the laptop, It is the only way to do this because it is connected to the laptops motherboard via a little white plug.

It's easier than I thought actually, I had built many tower PC's before but this was my second time opening a laptop (One was for my mate) to do a repair and it was surprisingly easy.

All you need to do is undo all the screws on the bottom, they are hidden all over the place. Make sure you remove them all and then once you are certain they are all out then it's all down to trying to open the casing. It can take a little bit of messing but it should eventually open without much issue.

Once you have done that it's a matter of removing the DC IN by unplugging it from the motherboard and putting the new one in and putting it all back together

My one issue I have had is that the wireless switch is loose on the front now and doesn't turn on & off, but I am not too fussed because I will never need it to be turned off and thankfully it's in the on position. Not opening it all up again to fix that.. lol

I hope you manage to fix your laptop.

This is the moment when I wish I had took pictures or recorded it so I could help you more.
