My Vaios speakers randomly stopped working last week, possibly as I downloaded a Div x update, so I uni installed it and the speakers still didnt work. I restarted the machine and still nothing. I uninstalled the sound drivers as I was told that by doing this and restarting the machine, it would come up with the new hardware found wizard and reinstall it all for me and prob solve the problem, It didnt, It couldnt find the drivers so I let it search on line and it still couldnt find the drivers. If i tried to turn the volume up or down it just wouldnt let me, the vaio volume bar came up just shown as muted. It wouldnt let me restore the computer either for some reson. I went through all the troubleshooting guide and tried all the usual things but nothing. In the device manager it had a yellow triangle and exclimation mark next to pci device, under its properties it said unknown for all the info. trying to update the driver and it couldnt find it. I ended up giving my Vaio a factory restore as its saved on a partition on my hard drive, I didnt want to as it takes a long time to get all you software and settings back as you had them etc. Anyway after doing the system restore I was very dissapointed to find that my speakers still do not work, The vaio volume bar now works and I can listern to music through the headphones.
I was not listerning to anything while the sound 1st went off and after about 2 computer restarts the sound started working again for about 2 songs then stopped half way through the next and hasnt made a sound since.
Please can someone help me get my sound back
kind regards
Thanks very much for your welcome and thanks for the advice and links, I tried it all, I ran the application then restarted as it instructed, then installed the driver but still it does not work - humph
Any other ideas welcome, Thanks again...
Hi haxworth,
I ended up giving my Vaio a factory restore
Another very long shot .........
if your headphones are working it could be the headphone socket that is failing to make the circuit when you pull the plug out. Very technical advice here - give it a good wiggle!!
Its not sepperate speakers, its the built in laptop speakers so cant be the lead, Thanks for the advice tho
Hmm I had the same thought and gave it a gental waggle, checked to make sure theres no crud in there and its all fine if you ask me. Its a pretty new laptop with not a lot of use so dont think that it is that. Thanks for the tip though!
