My laptop (pcg-fr215s) takes a long time to read DVD's and sometimes won't read them.
The orange light on the CD tray will flash then will stay on if it can't read the DVD.
It can't write to CD-RW's at all.
CD-Rs that it writes to take a ling time to read on cd/dvd players and the laptop itself.
It has no problem reading CD-Rs I had previously writen on the laptop and other CD-Roms.
I have used the 'Toshiba SD-R6012 (1S34)' update from the download section.
I have recently updated to XP SP2 and my Hard drivers were optimized yesterday.
Can anyone help me with this??:smileycry:
iam having exactly the same problem as you i have just downloaded the update no difference
i think it must be something to do with xp sp2 as i have only recently had problems i downloaded xp2 a few weeks ago
I had to install windows SP2 to fix the sonicstage 2 prob but it seems I haven't tried to copy cd's since I installed it until now!
Strange, maybe MS has a fix!
I'll have a look again and if I find one I'll post it on here!
i unistalled xp sp2 made no differece
it reads cds ok but will nt read dvds justs keeps spinning round and making a clicking noise
Thats exactly what mine does!
My dads desktop pc is also unable to write cd's but reads cd's and dvds perfect.
It looks like MS is to blame again!
How could I help optimize the DVD-RW's reading speed?
And could poor quality discs and a long dvd read time be caused by a dirty or damaged lense??????
i cleaned the lense dont know what else to do
I'm going to buy a lense cleaning kit and probably a cd cleaning kit as well!
Hopefully after I clean the lense properly it will read cd's better and right them better too.
At least I'll know that if it has no effect it wasn't just a dirty lense!!!!
Now it won't read the lense cleaner!
But it will read a scratched disk with finger prints all over it!
So why will it read a scratched to hell disk but not a DVD????
Is there something I'm missing here?
( PS I checked the lense cleaner on the desktop and dvd player, and it worked)
