does anyone have an old manual for this model, or know how to take the hard disk out?

the spec i have shows a 2 1/2 inch ide drive. a buddy has a laptop with the same size drive, and i am not sure if she has a hard disk, or a controller problem. if i can try her drive on another machine, i might be able to prove which it is

You are quoting an invalid model.  I think you are quoting the chassis type.  The model is something like PCG F701.
