Notebook will not let me make a recovery disk.

I have just purchased my new vgn-a295hp laptop
.
Have tried three different types of DVD`s to make a recovery disc but DVD drive keeps spitting them out saying please insert an empty disc or only getting a small way into burning then rejecting them.

What am i doing wrong. The DVD`s were Memorex / cheap branded one / TDK.

Is there a certain type od DVD that Sony`s like?

Welcome to CV. If your drive is not happy with TDK media then I'd say there is a problem with the drive IMHO. I've never had any problems with TDK - ever!

I'd take it back to the retailer and ask them to try - if they can't do it get it returned for a faulty drive.
