Hi Mentalpen,
does anything in the following link help: How to troubleshoot hibernation and standby issues in Windows XP
yes and no.
i'm not a complete noob.
my system is dual boot and i copied the compatible drivers drivers off the vista install whilst creating a custom install of XP home SP2 before creating a virtual floppy to run off the rom.
i've been in the registry and there is no hibernation sub folder but i have created the following string manually.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Power
"Heuristics"=hex:05,00,00,00,00,01,01,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,3f,42,0f,00
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Power
"Heuristics"=hex:05,00,00,00,00,01,01,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,3f,42,0f,00
i've then run the following command powercfg /HIBERNATE ON but it returns "system does not support hibernation"
so i am wondering if i have missed a driver?
i realise that this is more OS based rather than vaio based but i was hoping someone had come across it before and solved it.
i also have no hiberfil.sys file although i presume this will be created only when hibernation is created.
i don't know enough about xp but i was wandering if it a registry issue then can i copy the key from another xp machine and install it or possibly do that + copy a hiberfil.sys file from another machine place it then run powercfg /HIBERNATE ON
i may also just try and create another custom xp disc and copy some of the components, hotfixes, addons, update packs and tweaks from the vista partition then running a repair on the xp install.
can you think of anything before i try as its no small task.
