and when I press them it makes the computer freeze, same for the mute button too.
i have a vgn-fe31m
I did try a system restore not long after i noticed it but no joy.
Third party software a possibility. Nero was one that I installed. It would help if I knew the cause of this and I could maybe narrow down what software could be the problem. Nero automatically took over video/audio when it was installed. Is this linked?
When I uninstalled Event Service last night I tried the buttons and they worked...For a minute. Then the problem started again. I then reinstalled. No luck. I guess you must be on the right track.
I have a VGN-FE31H by the way!
Hi BarryVaio,
I haven't heard of Nero creating a problem with Vaio Event Service but who knows...
Let's see whether we can eliminate third party software as the cause...
Can you please try disabling all but the most necessary programs at startup via msconfig (do not disable Hkserv (XP) or any SONY startup program (XP or Vista).
Apply, re-boot and test.
If this cures the problem then re-enable each startup program (one at a time) followed by a reboot until the problem reoccurs.
If you have no joy with this then try disabling all services on the msconfig ‘Services’ tab (hide all Microsoft services first) and then re-boot.
This procedure will hopefully eliminated third party software as the cause…
