Hi Yardy,

Try reinstalling the following utilities…

Sony Utilities
Sony Shared Library
Vaio Event Service

Followed by a re-boot. You may need to repeat this couple of times.

The pre-installed utilities can be downloaded from Vaio-Link .

I've had this problem for months. Glad to eventually find someone who knows about it! I checked on my c: drive and the Utils folder was not there!?!? I've downloaded it and reinstalled the utilities you mentioned three time now. Still no luck.

Any other advice?

Hi BarryVaio and welcome to the forum.

Are you also experiencing the freezing problem when the buttons are pressed?

I suggest that you first check Vaio-Link for any updated drivers/utilities especially Vaio Event Service and install these. If that has no effect or if no updates are available then try removing Sony Utilities and Vaio Event Service via Control Panel > Programs and Features (Vista) or Add/Remove Programs (XP) and then reinstall the said utilities in the order above.

Yes, my system freezes also. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the following:

Sony Utilities DLL
Vaio Event Service

In that order. Still no luck!!

There does not appear to be any updated drivers. Any other advice?

Hi, BarryVaio,

I assume that it is too late to try a System Restore back to a date when all was OK? Also can you remember installing any third party software that may have caused this problem?

If this is the case then let me know and I will escalate this for you as the freezing problem is new to me (apart from Yardy's post which unfortunately has no feedback)

Just tried to follow the link but seems it doesnt work anymore.

My question, when I started my VGN-FZ18M it happened now several times that the screen just became grey and the only thing to do was to re-start. What could that be? Graphic chip hardware problem? Thanks for any help!

It could be a number of things sabine22, but can I suggest that you start a new thread as this one is only relevant to Fn keys.
