How can I disable the plate at the bottom of my VA10?

When I amm typing with my separate mouse the arrow jumps around

and my typed words appear in the wrong place. I need to disable the

built in mouse control/touch plate.

Which model Vaio do you own?  Different models have different touchpad properties.
