Heated up VAIO

Heated up VAIO

I bought a VGN-FZ21S VAIO laptop in January this year. Since then, the machine gets heated up too much most of the time. I mostly use the machine for all day. But, I think that is not a problem as I have friends who even do not shut down their laptops for the whole week. Their machines are not this way. So, will there please be someone who can suggest sth to me? Thank you in advance. :slight_smile:

Hello Luis,

I think I will just let it be for now if these are normal and try cleaning it after I have conjured up enough bravery or I will contact the VAIO-Link later if the temperature rose too much. :slight_smile:

Thanks a million!

I think that my FZ21Z has a very bad overheating problem:

This is the result from just idling with IE open and PC Wizard running:

======================================
Hardware Monitoring :
Voltage CPU :1.34 V
ACPI Thermal Zone :73 °C
:
Processor :Thermal Diode
Processor Temperature (Core 1) :77 °C
Processor Temperature (Core 2) :77 °C
:
Video Monitoring :nVidia Driver
GPU Temperature :80 °C
:
Hard Disk Monitoring :S.M.A.R.T
Hard Disk FUJITSU MHX2300BT :38 °C
======================================

This is what it jumped to after 5 minutes playing Sins:

======================================
Hardware Monitoring :
Voltage CPU :1.34 V
ACPI Thermal Zone :92 °C
:
Processor :Thermal Diode
Processor Temperature (Core 1) :94 °C
Processor Temperature (Core 2) :94 °C
:
Video Monitoring :nVidia Driver
GPU Temperature :95 °C
:
Hard Disk Monitoring :S.M.A.R.T
Hard Disk FUJITSU MHX2300BT :39 °C
======================================

The front left underside of the laptop is too hot to even touch for more than a few seconds. Surely this can't be right? I contacted Vaio Link and was put off sending it in as they said I would probably be charged for wasting their time as the laptop does not crash or anything!

So am I mad or is my laptop about to melt-down?

I had a simular problem with my fz21e overheating. What I did is go and get a can of compressed air and just spray the whole computer (especially where the cooling vents and fan are). After this the VAIO is running much colder - actually even at the highest loads it cannot reach the temperature that was "normal" before.

In case the compressed air does not do the trick, a reinstall in most cases will (together with cleaning the computer with the compressed air).
