FZ-21M Recovery Problems
Hey,
I just joined the forums. I'll be posting regularly now.
I own a vaio fz-21m and I have just really messed it up. I tried to restore the system to factory settings, and after I had formatted my hard disk and run recovery disc 1/3, I found out my 2nd recovery disc was missing. I am now really screwed up since I have no operating system. Can anyone help me restore the system? The worst thing is I am not in UK right now; since I'm an international student and have gone back home for my holidays.
Please help asap since I need to get my laptop fixed as early as possible.
Thanks

Hi aliazim2000,
welcome to Club VAIO..
You're Vaio has a hidden HDD recovery partition so as long as it has not been deleted you should be able to recover your Vaio back to the original installed OS and programs just as it was when you first used your Vaio.
To do this Start your Vaio and when you see the Vaio logo screen press F10 repeatedly this normally would start the recovery process..

Thanks for the reply Thalamus.
It is taking me into the recovery environment. But I am stuck here again.
It gives 4 options:
Windows system restore. When I try this it says Operating system not detected on hard disk.
Rescue Data. It starts making a backup[:S]
Restore C: Drive. It needs the disc.
VAIO Hardware Diagnostics.

Hi aliazim2000,
have you formatted the recovery partition.?
Try resetting your BIOS and try the F10 recovery again.
To reset your BIOS restart your Vaio and Press F2 when you see the Vaio logo.
Wait for the BIOS to load
Then press F9 Setup Defaults
Ensure yes is highlighted and press enter to confirm
Then press F10 Save and Exit, ensure yes is highlighted and press enter to confirm.
The follow the guide on page 37 of the manual HERE and select Restore Complete System..

Thanks again, but the manual link is not opening. I have reset the BIOS as you told me. Can you tell me any alternate links?
