That's for you to work out.

Common sense would say put it on a hard surface about the same size as the Vaio while on the bed so air can get in the vents.

Those temperatures look normal to me - I would expect a modern processor to operate between 60 and 65 degrees in normal use and to reach 70 degrees during heavy gameplay.  The CPU would continue to function normally up to 90 degrees when it would begin to thermally shut down.

Similarly, the CPU does not seem to be overcooled - so the fan usage is obviously needed.

Everything seems normal but it is possible that increased fan speed could be caused by dust or debris in the cooling vents.  You could try a can of compressed air to try to gently dislodge any dirt in the vents.

On a soft surface, you may be blocking the vents where the air is drawn in - even if the vent out is clear.

What model Vaio do you have ?

You must make sure all the vents (1) are not covered:

The vents must be unobstructed to avoid damage.
