Contact Sync Problems

Hello everyone,

I am having a problem with my Xperia TL syncing its contacts with a 2014 Toyota 4runner. The contacts sync but contacts that are not on my telephone are showing up and I have some contacts showing up thrice. The documentation for the car shows that the Xperia TL is a compatible handset. I deleted all the accounts for contacts on my telephone. I made sure all the contacts have been cleared out and contacts I have deleted long ago are still showing up. I don't understand why contacts I have deleted long ago are showing up when I sync my telephone. Is there anything I am not doing to get rid of these contacts?

Clearing data for the app called contacts storage will delete all contacts stored in the phones memory. As you still see these contacts in the car i suspect they are either synchronized to an account (for example Gmail), stored on your SIM-card or cached in the cars memory.

First check the filter under Contacts -> [menu] -> Filter and check that all categories for all contacts are enabled.

Depending on the software in your phone you may not have an option for SIM contacts under Contacts -> [menu] -> Filter. In that case, try starting the phone without the SIM-card and connect it to the car just to see if they are located on the SIM.

If that doesn't help, try resetting your car unit.

I went to the apps: contacts, contacts import, and contacts storage to clear the data and it didn't make a difference. Contacts that I have deleted long ago are still showing up on the head unit. It has to be the telephone since this data is coming from the telephone. Is there an app I haven't cleared that I need to clear?

How can I delete a contact from a SIM ? How can I see the Sim or Sim contacts?

Depending on software version and where the phone was sold you may have SIM-contacts under Contacts -> [menu] -> Filter and if you enable it you can see, edit and remove SIM-contacts as any other contact.

If you don't have any option for SIM-contacts under Contacts -> [menu] -> Filter, try downloading an app for managing SIM-contacts from Google Play.

I did use a third party app and was able to delete all the contacts on my SIM card. I now am able to sync the telephone to the vehicle and only see the contacts that are in my contacts list.
