YouTube lagging

Just bought a Sony Android TV and I’m trying to watch videos through the YouTube app. The videos lag quite badly after 3-4 minutes. The same videos are fine on my iPhone. I have tried wireless and wired connections. Can anyone suggest how to fix this?

Hi @hjuk2010, welcome to the Community.

Although your TV is new, the YouTube app may be slightly out of date. Have you tried updating it? 

You don't mention your TV model number, but if you enter it into a search you should be able to find the Sony online support page for it and check that your firmware is up to date. 

Hopefully one of those will work!

Hi Mick, thanks for the reply. The model is KD-43XE8005. I have checked and both the app and firmware are fully up to date

Hi hjuk2010,

The only reason I could think of as to why this is happening is that the internet speed isn't fast enough for the video to load with the quality selected. Have you tried to change the quality of the video to a lower quality just to test this out?

Also, Do you play videos through the app on the TV itself or you cast it to the TV from another device?  And have you checked if this issue is specific to YouTube or happening with other apps like BBC iPlayer as well?
