Will Sony support 4K iPlayer and HLG?
Any ideas @Anonymous? Prompted by announcment from BBC here. Currently only Panasonic can view 4K clips of Planet Earth II.

Last time I bought a Sony connected TV I vowed I'd never do it again. Was suckered into Android TV and UHD Blu-Ray neither of which supports iplayer 4K. Never, ever buying Sony again

It would be nice if Sony could comment on the reason why. Then we'd know if there's any hope of seeing it.

Currently none of the Sony Android TVs support Blue Planet / BBC iPlayer 4k. Only Sony know the answer to if we will ever get support, and they are not saying. The best we got on twitter was it was "under investigation".
Edit: There was actually a twitter post yesterday in response to a question from an XE80 owner asking about it which suggested it would be supported in a future firmware update although no dates given.

Sounds good, many thanks for the info and reply, It’s a sod because BBC Iplayer only has blue planet 2 in HLG for a limited time.
Must be an update soon because i can choose HLG on the HDMI picture settings and my netflix plays 4K HDR fine.
Glad i’m not the only one asking about a firmware update. Keep me posted!
Many Thanks.

Yeh, unfortunately I very much doubt its going to be in time for Blue Planet vanishing from iPlayer.

"Currently none of the Sony Android TVs support Blue Planet / BBC iPlayer 4k. "
According to the BBC about 40 Sony tv's are compatible

As I said none of the Sony Android TVs are supported, none of those TVs run Android.

Bang goes watching bottle nose dolphins in HLG.. So is Android the issue here? What does it even do?
I do hope they update the firmware, As my telly is not even 18 months old.
Come on Sony sort it out!
Peace
