Sony KD-55AG8 ... problem with AV1 files

Hello
I have a problem with playing AV1 files through a USB flash drive on the TV.
The picture chops, the sound lags, and generally you can't watch movies with this new codec.
I tried with 5-6 players, even through Kodi, but the problem remains
Does anyone have a solution to the problem?
In this case, a sample file ... Retribution.2023.1080p.BDRip.AV1-DiN
All other files like this, I can watch them without problem ... Barbie.2023.1080p.BluRay.x265.DDP5.1.Atmos-WAR

My XR42A90K plays AV1 files, but it is not listed as doing so in the Sony support specifications page. Strange.

Can you confirm which version of Android your TV runs, I think it will be Android 9.

If so I think you need to have Android 10 in order to play AV1 files and unless Sony decide to upgrade

the TVs operating system your probably stuck.

and scroll down to

Which Services and Devices Support AV1

your TV did have a firmware update released at the end of September, if you haven't installed it yet

Yes the problem will still be there the latest firmware update was only minor

to improve the performance of the TV.

Sony will probably never update the Android OS so you will not be able to play AV1 codecs,

but you can still get HEVC or AVC versions which you can play.

Hi,

As I can see on the official specs of this TV, it doesn't support playing AV1 codec files.

I also play them, but the picture lags and the sound is different. I have the same problem with another TV... tcl 50c815, which according to tcl also doesn't support av1 and causes the same problems... apparently things are going to change the tv someday.

As I posted earlier your Sony TV from 2019 is running an older version of Android (9.0) which cannot play AV1 files.

My Sony is from 2022 running Android 10.0 and can play AV1 files I was just pointing out that the Sony specifications

don't list that fact which I find strange.

It is very unlikely that Sony will release an update making your TV able to play AV1 files.

Yes ... as written and if true, both my TVs do not support AV1, but I noticed that on the new model of TCL it does, but the hardware is the same as the old C715 ... which means they can do it to support av1 with a firmware update, the question is whether they will want it

As this is a Sony user to user forum I am not interested in TCL and if they may update firmware to allow AV1 support on your TCL television.

The comparison link you posted shows the Sony KD-55AG8 and the TCL 50C715 running Android 9.0

and therefore no support for AV1 files, the TCL 50C725 runs Android 11.0 and therefore supports AV1 files.

In an earlier link I posted it stated that only TVs running Android 10.0 and above will run AV1 files.

As I said it is highly unlikely Sony will update the firmware to run Android 10.0 or later, even if the hardware on the TV could allow it, Sony makes money out of selling new televisions not continuously updating firmware to allow

older TVs to keep up with the new innovations.

What TCL decide to do is up to them.
