Is it OK to expect Android Oreo on 2017 Sony Android TVs?

Hi there, I have exactly the same issue but with a different AV reciever (connected via ARC), I was using an optical cable as a workaround whilst the fix was being worked on, but now it doesn't work at all, with the speakers set to Audio System I can only hear sound if I use the optical cable - this is true for built-in apps like Amazon Prime and Netflix. Youtube doesn't seem to work at all & needs to be switched to speakers (or turning off the AV reciever - which is faster). Very annoying.

I’m having the same issue Jon. XF90 connected to the matching sound bar HT XF9000. When I turn on the TV, Sound bar and Sky Q I get no sound or sometimes no picture. Have to turn the sound bar off and on again. It’s really a joke now.

Ok, for completeness and reliability of the test I have unplugged the Apple TV. So it is just the TV playing a YouTube video with the sound going to the AVR via HDMI ARC. Same identical thing.

 

Plus changing volume the video loses frames (how surprising..). Another thing I didn't mention (ATV unplugged. Same scenario above): the volume not only jumps, it even bounces back and the move forward again. For example, holding Vol-, I usually get a succession of values like this:

 

     35-31-24-25-26-20

 

Where the values in red are the volume actually bouncing up. Unless it's due to the two SONY's PlayStation turned off but still connected, sure (hmm.. No. I disconnected them as well - just the HDMI - and same thing).

 

PS: At least the issue with the HDMI devices disappearing (like in the Discover menu. And that included the PS4 and PS3), for now seems to be fixed. Reattaching all devices they reappeared as they must. And i didn't have any issue after upgrading (I've got others, but I have only one liver, not enough to deal with them. I just know a couple of workarounds).

Sorry to hear your having issues too @BryanSimo182. I have an XE83 together with Sky Q and a Panasonic soundbar, all worked perfectly together (Sky Q connected to TV, TV connected to soundbar via ARC) until the update in Feb where the ARC issue meant erratic behaviour, especially from standby as has been widely reported. Luckily using an optical cable to link the TV to the soundbar means I now get sound in almost all cases (YouTube app being the odd exception), but of course it's supposed to be working via ARC anyway so do feel like this is a step backwards.

 

Great to hear that the update has resolved the ARC issues for some, but not all. Looking at the Sky Q community it seems sound issues (ie no sound via HDMI / ARC) don't seem to be very prevalent at all so definately something strange going on with this new update. 

 

UPDATE:

Well a big surprise this morning, tested again without the optical cable and audio is working perfectly via ARC from all apps including YouTube. Hooray. Not sure what changed but I'm a happy camper now. Also noticed Netflix, Amazon and YouTube apps all updating too, not seen that happen before.

Hi @Jecht_Sin,

Try recreating the scenario with the physical volume buttons on the TV. If you cannot recreate the fault, then there is a problem either with your remote or the IR circuitry on the TV. I would then suggest you start by replacing the remote.

Also I am not entirely sure, but if you effectively have attempted to use ADB in the past to modify modules or settings on your TV; I would suggest to verify if an FDR solves the issue for you.

No issues so far with Sky Q and Sonos Beam (connected via ARC) to my KD-49XF9005. Noticed that volume setting is less prone to “skipping” forwards or backwards when using the remote.
