Is it OK to expect Android Oreo on 2017 Sony Android TVs?

My findings (repost from another thread):

***

Good news folks!

My issues are GONE with Oreo update!

My findings after several days of testing:

3D issue with inverted image ie. background object moved forth and foreground object moved back: FIXED finally, no more soft resets! I have done at least 100 soft resets last 12 months before Oreo - soft resets no more!

HDR support in Youtube app: Works beautiful! Youtube app is much more stable also, no more hiccups.

ARC with Marantz sr 7013: Works perfect.

Good job Sony engineers! Excuse my language earlier, the reason I bought ZD9 was 3D and HDR and it is first now it is working as intended.

Thanks again!

PS I updated via USB. However the update didn't want to start from 16 GB stick but when I changed to 8 GB stick the updated started automatically.

Anyone upgrading from Nougat directly to v6.6510 Oreo?

Feedback, please.

Thanx.

That would be my upgrade path but I won't be taking the plunge until the dust has settled. Regardless of Sony's "Automatic software download / Automatically check for update" recommendations. They've created an environment of doubt and risk around their firmware updates. At least one person has had their TV bricked and then had Sony declare it a hardware fault not covered by any warranty.  My plan is to stick with Nougat for now and let the brave weather the storm.

Hi @joelippa   Life is too short   In my opinion Oreo is a massive improvement.

Ha yeah @LightFoot life is short but I'm sticking with a working TV in my short life for now until I've got more confidence in Sony's cluster. I'm happy you're happy, you're one tick in the happy box.

I have to say the whole update is again a total disappointment.
The update has been officially released on the Sony website, but the TV (XF9005) itself has not found any updates. So I updated again via USB. And what could I expect? Problems with AV Recorder (Yamaha V373) are still present.
No sound when switched on via TV ... so I have to turn off the reciever and TV and turn it on again. VLC, Youtube no sound passthrough resp. surround sound....And Dolby Vision? Where?
I've been waiting for this for so long?
  Never more sony.

This is my primal fear. But I haven't read any such incident being reported. Link, please?

To be fair I can't find the original thread that I was thinking of where somebody said Sony had called a firmware upgrade attempt resulting in a bricked TV "hardware failure" but here are a couple of other similar threads in these forums:

https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/android-tv/xf900-bootloop-following-oreo-update/m-p/2573466?collapse...

https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/android-tv/android-8-0-oreo-bug-xf9005-reboot-automatically-when-tur...

There are probably others if you go digging, all anecdotal of course..

Edit: another one in this thread we're in now: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/android-tv/android-8-0-oreo/m-p/2588583#M34905

Thanks.

I was referring to the v6.6510 FW update. I was aware of all these concerning the February FW update.

v6.6510 terrible update, this update downgraded peak brightness tv and brightness Android UI (tested on xf9005). After 3 months waiting normal update this unbelievable.
