Is it OK to expect Android Oreo on 2017 Sony Android TVs?
No problem with the HDD.
HD Sentinnel shows 100% perfect.

Are you referring to this new firmware v6.5850 that has been out for US TVs?
How can it be that it's working for US folks and not working for us Europeans?
Yes, 6.5850. They probably found another issue. There has been a report on AVSForum that there is severe stuttering in some apps (e.g. YouTube TV) and that Sony is currently investigating.

US version is quite different (and simpler) from EU version. Just try to think how many different languages and TV systems we have here compared to US.
I recently downloaded Oreo 8 after an email invite from Sony to do so and updated my 2017 KD43EX8396 via a USB file download. Everything worked fine under Android 7 (although VERY slowly) until I rebooted the XE8396 after the update to Oreo 8...then discovered that the "SWAP" button on the remote couldn't remember the channels you were on and swapping to. I mainly use SATELLITE and since updating to AO8 the SATELLITE GUIDE is a real mess now, not that it was very good before on A7. Previous to the update SATELLITE GUIDE which is mainly blank had a good array of program info on available channels. Now mostly blank. Channel organisation appears to be very limited and a real pain to use compared to A7. Just hoping that Sony re-issue the update very soon OTA as the current update is very buggy. Just wish I hadn't bothered. Certainly will NOT buy another Sony. Their adoption of Android is a disaster. LG's WebOS3.5 is much more stable and very much faster compared to the Sony.
Until the XE 8396 I had a Sony Profeel complete system that ran without a single problem for over 39 years. The only reason I replaced this wonderful system was that the RED gun in the 21" CRT packed up and spares weren't available.

Try in any case to use a different device or reformatting it. The player is very simple and do not have any problem that I ever heard (apart some stuttering some times ago)

I do not know if it is the correct translation for the italian "il mondo è bello perchè è vario", googling it it says "It takes all kind to make a world". Never heard anyone complaining so hard as to prefer a 39 years old CRT TV because of the swap remote button.
The "swap" button problem is ONLY ONE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THE OREO 8 UPDATE, mate.
Sounds like a fool and his money are soon parted as far as you are concerned.
You appear to have missed the brand loyalty bit. It was precisely why I bought the Sony, after having had such remarkable service from any manyfacturer's product. LCD and LED screens are not the end all of TV. The Profeel displayed a perfect grey screen corner to corner without inconsistencies, unlike the "modern" flat screens with or without CCFL backlight.

Don't worry about my money, mate. And I do have an OLED not an LCD screen. With Oreo. Enjoing it everyday, despite the swap button and all the other bugs that I tracked for everyone in Italy https://community.sony.it/t5/televisori/bravia-android-tv-aggiornamento-oreo-bug-list/m-p/2575074#M5...
