CD/DVD Drive does not open

my problem is that the drive does not ope using the normal eject button. only after unplugging it, taking the battery out and then rebooting in it ejects normally again but only until have loaded any application i.e ms office then it doesn't work again
anyone experienced something like this?

sounds like something is locking the drive
what happens in my computer when you go into it, right click on the CD drive and selecting Eject.

does this work? If not, it sounds like something in the background is locking the drive as a cD Wrting program would during the burn.

Sounds like your utilities are crashing, stopping you using the button
