Vibration issue?

Hi everyone!

Yes, the phone is perfect and despite subjective critics from mere haters, I have to admit it's more than anyone desires.

Though, I think i have a hardware problem related to the haptic vibration. It's currently turned on while typing, being set on medium intensity. Even so, after a few words or constant presses on various buttons which trigger the vibration it stops ONLY if I keep the phone in a vertical position (as in, the bottom is pointing straight to the ground while the screen is in front of me). If the phone is kept still, nothing works - it's simply not vibrating anymore (I tried to reset the phone, turning the feature on/off etc). Though, if the Z1 is even slightly tilted everything goes back to normal. Is my unit faulty?

Cheers and looking forward to your answers!

I found this topic via google.

I have the exact problem. Have had my first handset sent back to sony for repairs. The repair invoice said 'several items repaired', but the new handset has the same problem. Would be good to know if this is by design.

To me it looks more like a loose contact. All vibrations stop, not only haptic feedback. If i put it 'horizontal' vibrations do not start again. As the phone is in a vertical state in my pocket a lot this is unacceptable.

Only if I 'tap' the phone again with some force with my fingers, vibrations work again, which leads me to believe this is not a software but a physical problem with a bad contact or such.

Hi wessel99, I've thoroughly investigated this particular issue and it seems it's "as designed".

Might be a design flaw which affected a huge part of the production line, or simply how vibrations should work on this device. I've tested the same behavior on multple Z1 units, in multiple stores - same results.

I'd say not to worry... Slightly_smiling_Face

Z1 compact -the same issue. Those who say not to worry don't really know the issue. For example I often use my phone in silent mode.but it doesn't work half of the time. And what is the answer. Is it hardware or not

I had the same issue when i first got my phone. I thought that my phone was defected or something. But then i realized that when the intensity of vibration is medium or high, repeated vibrations (like when typing) causes the vibration engine to get stuck or something like that. Shaking the device once immediately resolves the issue. To prevent this just lower the vibration intensity of keyboard presses and u'll totally forget about that issue. Been using the phone for 3 months now and totally forgot about the vibration getting stuck. Slightly_smiling_Face

I have the XPERIA Z cellphone, and sice I got it, this does not vibrate, when I use the vibration option my cellphone just get into silence mode.

I did a hard reset, and after this, the vibration option worked for couple hours, then it got silence mode without vibration again.

I do not know what to do, I bought this cellphone 3 days ago.

Hi imwato,

Try to fix the problem with vibration by performing a software repair using Sony Update Service.
