Since I got my phone it has never ever stayed on silent (particularly when it's plugged in it just turns the volume up onto the lowest volume) I recently did an update which scrambled my phone with an error that I got solved by clearing and reinstalling software but since then it won't stay on silent at all I can put it on silent and literally a second later it will be on the lowest volume setting does anyone know how I can get around this
It is a problem more when plugged especially when it's night time and I dont want to be disturb
Any help would be much appreciated

Don't you love it when Google changes something to make it more complicated when it never needed it in the first place?
You can disable DND from attaching itself to volume control by enabling the hidden Settings UI Menu. But disabling this menu will reset your quick settings layout.
Enabling this menu will also secretly try to turn on Google Nearby if you have it disabled, so make sure it doesn't turn back on.
If you want to access this menu, slide down the notification shade and long press the settings cog. To disable, long press the cog.
An extra menu called Settings UI will appear as an extra option in the main settings page.
99% of the blame goes to Google on this one
Edit :
Here's the System UI Tuner
I'm going to add this video about the Google Nearby Settings and Quick Settings shenanigans...
The same will apply for WiFi and Bluetooth, and is part of the build up of problems for Bluetooth
note: system ui tuner has not been enabled, but toggling systems ui tuner may also trigger nearby
