'Media' running in background consume large power after restart the phone

I'm using Media Go in Sony PC Companion to transfer my photos and videos from pc to phone.

Everything just go smoothly until I switch off my phone and restart, the phone was so hot after restart within a minute, it is unusual since I have not touch anything yet, its just like something running in the background and consume a large battery usage. I check the battery usage and found out this:Screenshot_2013-03-24-09-29-22.JPG

Its draining more power than the screen that makes me wonder what is this 'media' is using for? Its just happened after I transfer all my photos and some videos to the 32gb SD card in my phone, the total size is about 2gb+.

After a couple of minutes it seems that the 'media' is stop running and my phone is not so hot like before...

I try to restart the phone again after an hour, and same thing happened again, the usage of 'media' is higher than the screen even after 1 hour of usage.

Can someone tell me is this normal?? I had tried format my SD card and restore factory setting on the phone, firstly I choose to restore without delete the internal memory, and the problem still exist. Then I restore and delete all content in the internal memory, it works and no more 'media' running in background. As long as I didn't transfer media files (photos, video, music) in large amount into the SD card, it would not happen again. But how I can sacrifice all my stuff that not to bringing them to the phone...? Slightly_frowning_Face

Why would this happen?? Each time I restart my phone it will drains my battery and cause unsual heat on the phone... Is this a bug? Anyone here facing the same problem? Hope to get an answer here, thanks.

I would uninstall all none standard apps and see where you're at - next step remove the sdcard

hell just do a factory reset and backup all your music and photos to your PC and format the sd card and start fresh - do not install any SW until you know everything is working for a day or so

it might be that it's syncing and that's why its getting hot and draining your battery, what are you syncing?

double check fb, it might be syncing all your fb albums

I didn't sync with my fb album, I think the problem is related to my media files that transfer from pc to phone, once I restored the phone and erased all files in both phone and SD card, it wouldn't happen again even restarting the phone. Anyway, thanks for the help Slightly_smiling_Face

I think that 'media' thing will not disturb me again as long as I keep switch on my phone and don't restart it, but this is not the solution at all...

It's really weird, I had browse the forum and couldn't find a similar problem posted by others, looks like its only me having such problem...:smileyconfused:

I sent the phone back to Sony and they also have no idea about it, They told me maybe its a hardware problem and replace another new phone to me because I just bought it not more than a week.

I even buy a brand new SD card on it, so now I have a new phone, new card, though the problem will be solved, but that thing comes out again after I transfer my photos into the phone. I did a virus scan, malware scan on what I have in the SD card and all files are clean...

I don't know what is going wrong now:smileyconfused:

it does seem weird, I still think its an app acting up, it could be an antivirus, taskiller, battery or ram app, you don't need any of those apps. are you certain that you are not syncing your fb albums with facebook inside xperia?

I disconneted my fb account with xperia just now and restart the phone, it still the same.

As we can see, the 'media' can drain the battery from 9% increase to 25% just within 2 minutes. Battery drop 1% each minute, gosh this is really abnormal...:smileyshocked:

what stands out here is that the media (not mediaserver) is active along with sdcard

have you rooted your phone - are you running any apps from the sdcard - maybe a live screen wallpaper or something, if you imagine your sd card is like a hard drive on a PC then this tell me it's active all the time and if you imagine the HD light would be constantly active on the PC

check for running apps and see if any are on your sdcard

the 2x biggest users on my phone are display and mediaserver but my battery usage is getting better by the day and is now quite reasonable
