how to delete SMS messages

Hi, I want to delete my SMS messages from the messaging app...it's taking ages...
Where are they stored can I just delete the files?

If you install myphone explorer,it should let you explore the phone and see messages,calls,contacts etc.It is a simple interface.

I have tried numerous times in last 6 months to delete single message and also all of them but the message/s dont get deleted at all. Mobile hangs up but messages just do not delete.

Earlier, messages were deleted but now these "refuse" to get deleted.
