empty call log - not hidden

Hello everyone,
I've updated to kit kat a few days ago and since, the call log is persistently empty.
I've looked up solutions, but everyone points to the "hide call log" setting.

Mine ISN'T hidden.

I see missed calls on the notification bar and menu, but when i press the missed call notification, it takes me to an empty call log.
Third party apps work just fine. I've tried removing all phone related apps, but to no avail.
In the mean time, in using a third party dialer, but it doesn't erase missed call icon on the phone icon, which really pisses me off. The original phone app doesn't show me any of the call logs, but it's insistent about showing me that there are missed calls.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

ok, updates:

did a factory reset - didn't help.

did a full reinstall of Kitkat using PC companion.

so far i seem to able to see all of my calls in the log,

i've tried removing the app from recents list - still see full log.

i have nothing installed yet, so i'll try installing apps in small batches and maybe i'll get lucky and if was an app and not something random.

As far as I remember when seing this issue before in previous software, a Clear call log can help and make call log works again.

You can also try to filter and see if you can see only "incoming calls" for example. After that make a clear call logs. and then set filter to show everything again.

After that I believe the call log should work as expected. (Start registered calls)

I hope you can understand my wague explanation, but I dont remember exactaly how I solved it.

Hi,

That sounds quite strange.

Did you use any backup or similar that you restored after the update?

You can try to clear data for the phone application under settings > apps > all > phone > clear data. Restart your phone and try to make a call to see if it will be shown in the call log. Note that previous number will be deleted from the call log.

i've tried your advise.

i have already tried erasing app data and rebooting in the past (didn't work)

i've tried tinkering a bit more:

if i filter only outgoing calls I see all my outgoing calls.

if i filter answering service it show "log empty" which makes sense because i haven't called to my answering service.

if i filter missed and/or incoming, the log shows nothing.

any subsequent filtering , still doesn't show any incoming/missed calls - in fact, the filtering doesn't register at all (if the previous was outgoing, and i've changed to incoming - i still get outgoing).

all of this is reset the minute i exit the app AND remove it from the recent list (remove it from RAM).

as far as i can understand, it would seem that there are two problems:

1. defalult filtering settings (when app is initialy activated)

2. incoming call are not displayed.

on third party apps (several of them in fact), everything is both registered and displayed.

any ideas?

thanks!

The sony backup/restore program is doing the damage. If i dont restore all works fine as soon as i restore from backup the log is gone. So Sony bug no 100000000 fix bug in restore. (Or better dont give us the option)

It could be related to the restore, not really the app itself but the apps it restores.

i restoed call log, sms, and bookmarks using PC companion, and haven't had the problem.

try backing up with a third party app (and leave the backup on the SD card) and reinstall Kitkat. maybe it'll solve it for you too.

whatever the solution is, it'll be some kind of permutation that'll involve a reinstall using PC companion.

Hi Everyone! I had the following problems after the KitKat update:

- Ringer sometimes goes to ear-speaker

- Call log disappeared

- Deezer app stopped with a strange message.

I  have spent half of the last night to try to fix the problems. I made several factory reset and also a lot of "repair" via the computer with the Sony software. Since Automatic restore was checked, the phone started to load back all the apps I had before but I guess also a lot of settings. The problems remained. So I decided to prevent the Automatic restore before a repair and finally the problems disappeared. But unfortunately I have lost some of my app data and settings which were important for me.

Likely solution:

- Turn off Automatic restore under Settings/Backup and reset.

- Go to the apps and look for the "Back up and restore" app. Maybe it is in a folder called Tools

- Create a backup to an inserted SD card BUT before that uncheck the "System apps data" then select the app you really need to have the same way as it is now from the list of "Downloaded apps with data" list by pushing the down arrow.

- Now I did a repair with the PC (maybe also work with the Factory reset without PC).

- After finishing use the Back up app again to restore the important downloaded apps and their data.

- If Deezer fails, take out the memory card and put it back (things sometimes does not change....:smileyhappy:)

Now you should have a phone without the above bugs. Unfortunatelly you have to customize the phone from scratch, so take some notes if you wish before you start about your favorite settings like background wallpaper, font size etc.

I still have a bug: Increasing ringtone does not work, but it was the same out of the original box before the update.

SONY, this update was unprofessional.
