"No Internet access" message when connected to WiFi

Hi Peeps, i am new to using a Sony XZs, in fact new to using Android.

i have been experiencing this problem and have tried to use the "remedies" that other users have posted online about changing the IP address etc, but none of them has worked for me. i have been able to connect to WIFI but just no internet accress either at home, in the office, in the cafes, or even using my old iPhone as a hot spot.

Is there a permanent solution to this? Or why is this even happening? Gosh....can't believe even connecting to WIFI which is such a simple thing at this age has become such a pain.

Appreciate any help or advice. Many thanks.

Hi @e_Motionsfly, welcome to the community. I am sorry to hear about this. Slightly_frowning_Face

Can you please try your phone in safe mode and let me know if it is doing the same thing?

Could you also please list all the steps you have tried so far?

Hi CameronT,

no i have tried everything i could but i am still stuck. i found out that it's because i am in China, apparently Android in Sony will try to connect to the Google account which is banned in China. Is this true? Is there any workaround for this?

I am from Singapore and i bought the phone in Singapore, i am being posted to Shanghai for work for 3 months and so i brought my Sony here with me. Both my Singapore and China SIM card don't work.

Also, during my attempts to fix my phone via Software Updates and Repairs using the Sony Companion software, my phone now is permanently stuck at 1 of the setup screen because it's still looking for WIFI. My phone has gone redundant now and i don't know what to do with it.

i had the option of connecting to Cellular Data Network, but i still couldn't get pass this screen. i was told this is because of Google being banned in China and the software can't proceed without connecting to our Google account.

Let me know if there's any workaround. Thank you.

Cheers,

Chris.

I am not familiar with specific laws in China, but if it is being blocked due to Google, try removing your Google account under Settings > Accounts & Sync.

It has nothing to do with that. It's a know issue that on most XZ phones as well as the Z5 series that they all have WiFi issues.

This is an issue Sony has been aware of for more than 2 years and has done nothing to fix it. I'd recommend returning your device if you can because they aren't going to fix it anytime soon.

Same thing happened here. I recently went to vacation in China and my Sony Xperia XZ would connect to the wifi networks in China, but no internet access and this happened with all the networks I tried to connect to in China. Same thing happened to my brother's Sony Xperia XZ Premium, he would also get "connected, but no internet access". Tried 5-10 networks and they were all the same, "connected, but no internet access". I downloaded apps to check the wifi and I was getting the correct DNS and on the right bands from the wifi networks, but still no internet access. There were no issues with my cousins Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ connecting and getting internet access from the same wifi networks.
