Ok, so I have seen a lot of people already complaining about poor performance of this device but I'd like to open a topic with a specific possible cause, symptoms, etc.
In short I have owned the Z5 Compact for several months now. The performance of the device has varied from fast & snappy to horrible laggy stuttering which I wouldn't expect even from a 100$ phone. Unfortunatelly the later has been with me for the better part of our time spent together. This morning I opened the Settings -> Memory screen and noticed something really weird:
Average memory use: 285 MB Free 0.0 B
This is of course complete nonsense (where is the rest? 1.5 GB missing?), but it would explain why the device becomes so slow. It can utilize only 285 MB of RAM. So either this is a bug and the information is not displayed correctly within the Settings app or there is a serious issue with the memory. Could it be that the Z5C doesn't see the rest of the RAM and this causes this issue?
I asked a friend of mine who is also strugling with his Z5C to check this screen and he got the same data (285 MB used, 0 B free). Unfortunatelly I don't have a screenshot at the moment. I'll try to provide it once it happens again.
I did a Factory Reset a few hours ago, restored my backup and my phone is working like a charm again. My fear is it won't last, since it never did. After the Marshmellow update it worked fantastically for a day or two, then it become horribly slow again. But the Memory screen of the settings looks quite normal and everything adds up now - 1.4 GB used, 350 MB free!
the memory screen is not accurate in giving data to users, most people would interpret this as the overall memory consumed by the device in every single moment . but its not, its just the memory consumed during the time elapsed, let's say for example you played a ram extensive game for 3 hours (lets say it took 1.5 out of 1.9 GB of the ram), so in the memory screen it would tell you that for the past 3 hours the average ram usage is around 1.GB. to be able to see your real time ram usage you can use apps like CPU Z. Here's a screenshot of my Z5C ram right now,
and i would rather bet that you are experiencing a bug and not a good basis as to why your device is slowing down
I'm well aware of all this... But bare in mind that something has to be up when the OS thinks it has 285 MB of RAM used and 0 bytes free... And the same thing happens to a friend of mine and I'm sure a lot of other people who just don't bother with posting on the forums. I've seen a lot of posts about horrible performance and I have experienced it as well. As far as I know there isn't an official statement, but apps should not open for 5-10 seconds, lag while typing constantly etc...
This is happening more often than not, bare in mind. No idea what's causing it, but this does look like any device acts when not enough RAM is available.
Facebook is your worst enemy (if you have that installed)
edit- Facebook messenger to be more specific

I do have both apps, but that can't be the problem, since other devices are running them too. Z3C ran them just fine, etc. And I am not going to uninstall them and not use them just because I got a sub-par smartphone from Sony...
Yeah, but I was just saying... out of most of the apps that you could get from the store, messenger services are usually the ones that take most of the resources... that and Sync services & backup (if they're active)
(in terms of which ones would hog the most ram)
So, this is what I was talking about. Yes, CPU-Z does not say that I have 0.0 B free but around 400 MB, but every time I get severe performance issues this happens and this is exactly what one would expect if the OS does not see or know how to use more RAM. The phone becomes unusable. This is not acceptable!
I tried recording my screen to show you guys but the recorder kept crashing during the recording. Nothing is working after a few days without a restart...
Go somewhere like img.ur and upload and link your pic, so we don't have to wait for approval

I got an email today telling me to check out the new Xperia range.
I'd like to thank marketing for stating the Xperia X Performance's are "Water Resistant" and not "Water Proof".
A thank you is in order after hanging them (Marketing - not my Xperia) out on the bleachers earlier this year.
Ok, see you all again in another Quarter... busy with assignments.
PS - I managed to get my Z5C using only 60% RAM... I have about three times the RAM that was available to me last year. I haven't rooted the phone yet either... I was going to to take control of the SD card, but got a bit tied up and lazy this year.
